Commemorative Plaque for Jehova´s Witnesses Inaugurated

 
 

A new commemorative plaque was inaugurated on April 13, 2014 in the court of honour of the KZ Gusen Memorial to honour the Jehova´s Witnesses that were imprisoned during the period between 1939 and 1945 in concentration camp KZ Gusen I.

The new plaque was provided for this often disregarded group of inmates along with project “GE-DENKEN BEWEGT” [commemoration is moving] upon initiative by Mrs. Ulrike Springer who is Jehova´s witness herself and a qualified guide to the former Mauthausen-Gusen complex.

According to latest Research, 77 men were imprisoned in KZ Gusen I with a violet triangle as Jehova´s Witnesses because of disobeying Nazi war orders due to their religious conviction.

The inauguration was accompanied by music of German composer Johann Sebastian Bach played by Mr. Andrej Tarnok on his violin. Mr. Karl Hubmann of the “Lila Winkel” [violet triangle] Association and Mrs. Heide Gsell of the historical archive of the Watchtower Society in Austria told about the tale of woe of Jehova´s victims in Concentration Camp Gusen.

The commemorative plaque was manufactured by Marc Schneidinger and Rene Feyer.

The “Lila Winkel” Association is dedicated to the rehabilitation an the support of Nazi victims.
