Weekend Overview

Mr. Thaddeusz Szulc, Polish Deputy-Minister of Education, in the opening ceremony for the new KZ Gusen Visitors´ Center that was financed in a good deal by the Polish Government too in commemoration of the 28,000 Polish vicitms of KZ Gusen. Dr. Ernst Strasser, Austrian Federal Minister of the Interior, thanking HE Dr. Irena Lipowicz, the Ambassador of Poland to Austria, the survivors, "Personenkomitee Gusen" and the KZ Gusen Memorial Committee for taking the initiative to establish a new Visitors´ Center at Gusen. Mr. Franz Hiesl, Deputy-Governor of Upper Austria, underlining the contribution of the Province of Upper Austria to the new Visitors´ Center.
Dr. Manfred Scheuer, Roman Catholic Bishop of Innsbruck, Austria, giving his speech at the local-international commemoration.

  • 02:00 p.m. Guided tours to remnants of the KZ Gusen concentration camps

  • 03:30 p.m. Opening ceremony of the new KZ Gusen Visitors´ Center

  • 05:30 p.m. Local-International Commemoration
The opening ceremony and the local-international commemoration were accompanied by musicians form Poland, Italy and Langenstein. HE Dr. Irena Lipowicz receiving flowers from members of the KZ Gusen Memorial Committee to thank her for her excellent contribution to make the new Visitors´ Center come true. A large group of participants walking with Mr. Angelo Ratti, survivor of KZ Gusen II, to see remants of "Bergkristall" at St. Georgen/Gusen.
