Local-International Commemoration

A commemorative plaque was dedicated and inaugurated by veterans of the 11th Armored Division at this years´ local-international commemoration at Gusen.

Weekend Overview

A Polish band from Warszawa-Rembertowie accompanied the commemoration under the direction of Colonel Julian Kwiatkowski. Members of the 11th Armored Division that liberated the concnetration camps at Gusen and Mauthausen on May 5, 1945 came back to Gusen 60 years later. From left to right: Colonel Ardery, Harry C.   • 09:30 a.m. Guided tours to remnants of the KZ Gusen concentration camps

  • 03:30 p.m. Inauguration of new commemorative plaque of the 11th Armored Division and conferring of orders by the Austrian Federal Minister of the Interior to 11th Ard Div veterans.

  • 05:30 p.m. Local-International Commemoration

  • 07:30 p.m. Reception of survivors by the Community of Langenstein

Colonel Ardery giving his speech to the participants. Mrs. Liese Prokop, the new Austrian Federal Minister of the Interior, decorated the participating liberators with high ranking Austrian orders. KZ Gusen I survivor Pierre Serge Choumoff thanking Harry C. Saunders again for liberating the camps 60 years ago.
