Due to the worldwide pandemic, the international commemoration for the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the former Gusen complex of concentration camps will take place online this year.

Rudolf A. Haunschmied, co-founder of the Gusen Memorial Committee (GMC) – www.gusen.org – will introduce to the history of this once largest but largely unknown concentration camp complex on Austrian territory. Following these introductions, emerging questions from the participants should be answered in depth.

In the fall of 2018, around 70 cubic meters of human ashes from the first half of the 20th century were found during renovation work on the train station in Lungitz, which was once an integral part of the former Gusen concentration camp complex (KL Gusen III).

In this information evening, the responsible Federal Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the municipality of Katsdorf, informs the local population about the current status of the investigations and the possible establishment of a worthy memorial site for these Holocaust victims.
