The president of the Austrian National Assembly, Mrs. Barbara Prammer, opened Audiowalk Gusen in 2007

Audiowalk Gusen is available in the following languages: English, Italian, and German. Duration is about two and a half hours (approx. 4 km).

The audiowalk leads to the remnants of former Concentration Camp Gusen I and to the area of former Concentration Camp Gusen II. From there it heads over the former SS railway system towards St. Georgen/Gusen where it ends at the former “Bergkristall” underground plant.

While the visitor sees the areas of the former KZ Gusen I & II concentration camps as they appear today, survivors, former guards, and people who live today around the KZ Gusen remnants lead the visitor back to the days during World War II.

Experiencing Audiowalk Gusen is comparable to a journey with something like a time machine, forcing the visitor to find himself in a reflection of the horrible past that dominated this lovely landscape during the Nazi period.

To get the headphones it is necessary to make prior reservations:

  • from Tuesdays to Sunday at: KZ-Gedenkstätte Mauthausen, Mr. Bernhard Muehleder (Phone: ++43 7238 2269-22) or at: education@mauthausen-memorial.org

The audio equipment will be handed out by Mr. Muehleder at the KZ Gusen Visitors Center.

Group sizes are limited to 30 persons.
