New Trail of Human Rights

March 24th, 2023 Trail of Human Rights

The new "Trail of Human Rights" (Weg der Menschenrechte) was presented to the public on March 24, 2023 at the House of Remembrance in front of the KL Gusen II "Bergkristall" underground memorial in St. Georgen/Gusen, Austria.

It is a great new hiking route that connects the important memorials in the Region of Awareness Mauthausen-Gusen-St. Georgen (Bewusstseinsregion) on a three-stage scenic route from the Mauthausen train station via the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camp memorials to the House of Remembrance in St. Georgen.

On this new 11 kilometer trail interested people have the opportunity in a three hours hiking tour to get to know great personalities from all over the world who have contributed essentially to humanity and human rights in the fresh air and the beautiful landscape of the Region of Awareness Mauthausen-Gusen-St. Georgen.

The new trail is also an excellent supplement to a visit of the concentration camp memorials at Mauthausen, Gusen, or St. Georgen.

Since the Gusen Memorial Committee (GMC) is one of the official partners in this project,  we invite everybody to experience this new Trail of Human Rights along with your next visit(s) to the important memorials in the Mauthausen-Gusen-St. Georgen Region of Awareness!

We especially thank our founding member Prof. Rudolf Haunschmied for his contributions to the development of that project in the years 2017 to 2022.

We also recommend to use the new virtual guides Inter-Spaces I, Inter-Spaces II, and Gusen of the Mauthausen Memorial to supplement your walk with additional historical information about the locations you´ll pass by when walking on the new Trail of Human Rights in the Mauthausen-Gusen-St. Georgen Region of Awareness.
