10 Years Mauthausen-Gusen-St. Georgen Region of Awareness
October 3rd, 2026As member organization, we are delighted that the Mauthausen-Gusen-St. Georgen Region of Awareness [Bewusstseinsregion Mauthausen-Gusen-St.Georgen] celebrated its 10th anniversary on October 3, 2026, with an open house at the House of Remembrance in St. Georgen/Gusen, Austria.
The Gusen Memorial Committee (GMC) has supported this important association of the municipalities of St. Georgen, Langenstein, and Mauthausen from the very beginning, since it is particularly dedicated to preserving the memory of the former St. Georgen-Gusen-Mauthausen concentration camp complex too.
We are also very pleased that our founding member, Prof. Rudolf Haunschmied, was a co-founder of this Region of Awareness in the years 2013 to 2016 and has officially represented the Gusen Memorial Committee (GMC) in the corresponding supporting association for many years since then.
Prof. Haunschmied delivered also a short speech during the anniversary ceremony on the importants of remembrance and the work of the Mauthausen-Gusen-St. Georgen Region of Awareness.
The Gusen Memorial Committee (GMC) was also represented by president Reinhard Kaspar.
We wish "our" Region of Awareness continued success in the years to come along with the local-international efforts to preserve the memory of the past and the importance of upholding human dignity, humanity, and human rights, today and, above all, in the future.
