Outstanding new Source Edition on former Gusen Concentration Camp Complex
November 5th, 2024
One further important standard work on the history of the former Gusen concentration camp complex is now available in German language with the title "Konzentrationslager Gusen 1939–1945 | Eine Dokumentation“ [Concentration Camp Gusen 1939–1945 | A Documentation].
This first source edition on the former Gusen complex of concentration camps was published by the Mauthausen Memorial after more than two years of extensive work. Senior researchers Gregor Holzinger, Stephanie Kaiser, Ralf Lechner and Christian Dürr acted as editors. In addition to other highly qualified employees of the Mauthausen Memorial, GMC founding member Prof. Rudolf A. Haunschmied contributed too. As a pioneer of Gusen related research he published the first fundamental texts on the former St. Georgen-Gusen-Mauthausen concentration camp complex already more than 35 years ago (see Bibliography) and was invited to support this project too with his expertise and experience.
On 280 pages, the new "Gusen Source Edition" presents important documents, plans and images on what was once the largest concentration camp complex on Austrian territory. All of these sources have been commented on by the best experts available in Austria. These experts have also provided high-quality scientific introductory texts for the various chapters of this outstanding edition. Many of the sources presented come from archives in different parts of the world and are being made available to a wider public for the first time in compact form in this outstanding publication.
The presentation of this new volume took place on November 5, 2024 in the new Information Center of the Gusen Memorial in Langenstein, and attracted a great number of interested persons.
The book “Konzentrationslager Gusen 1939–1945 | Eine Dokumentation” is now available in the visitor center of the Mauthausen Memorial or online at the publishing house new academic press or in good online bookstores.
